Raising a Daughter - Media

I'd like to apologize for supporting the Evil, Lying, Pretending to Give-a-Shit Unilever Corporation, but couldn't find an example of this sort of thing that wasn't also a plug for something heinous. HW

I had got the impression your kids weren't overly exposed to media for now. Are you planning for the future? I suppose books count as media, and some of them are pretty vile.

You're right, they are not exposed very much. We are TV-free, we don't have fashion magazines in the house etc., but we don't live on an island - these images are everywhere. They see billboards, receive highly gender-biased and often hyper-sexualized toys and books given by well-meaning friends and relations, they are exposed to TV at friend's houses, and can't escape the all-pervasive cultural expectations of femininity...and of course, it will get worse as they get older, yes.
